New Year’s Resolutions To Improve Your Pet’s Health
I love it when the New Year rolls around. I like to reflect on the past year and think about my focus for the new year. Since my Big Review Show of 2018 aired, I’ve had a few people ask me for easy doable changes they can make to improve their pet’s health and overall well-being and environment in 2019. I think the key to any changes is that they’re simple, apply them one at a time, and eventually stack them as you solidify each change.
With that said let’s get onto to some simple easy to apply changes that make a positive impact on your pet’s health and wellness.
Each week fresh fruits and vegetables are on my shopping list for my family and that includes my dogs. Fresh food is a key component to good nutrition for people and pets. Research show that dogs who ate any green leafy vegetables, like broccoli, reduced the risk of developing bladder cancer by 90%! Likewise, dogs that consumed any yellow orange vegetables such as carrots reduced their risk by 70%! With stats like who wouldn’t want to give it to their pet. It’s easy to incorporate these fresh foods into your pet’s diet daily if you’re not already feeding a fresh food species appropriate diet. It’s a great inexpensive path to improved nutrition and here’s how you can do it.
Gently steam spinach, broccoli, kale, or carrots to break the cellulose walls down and feed 1 tablespoon per day. That’s it! Small change yet a mighty benefit.
Coconut oil is a good fat to add to your pet’s diet and provides many benefits.

How Do I Choose A Good Coconut Oil?
The market is flooded with coconut oil products and it can be overwhelming to sort through them. What you need to look for is Organic Virgin or Extra Virgin coconut oil.
How Much Do I Give To My Dog A Supplement?
Used as a daily supplement you’ll work up to about 1 tsp per 10 lbs of body weight per day. As with any new addition to your pet’s supplementation start with ¼ of this amount to avoid loose stools, then gradually increase the daily dosage until you get to the recommended 1tsp. I like to add my coconut oil to my dogs’ meals splitting the dosage in two.
How Do I Use Oil To Clean My Dog’s Teeth?
Here is an easy to prepare pet toothpaste recipe.
- 2 Tbsps baking soda
- 2 Tbsps coconut oil
- 1 drop peppermint oil (optional)
- Gauze or microfiber finger toothbrush.
Mix all the ingredients together and decanter into a small jar. Place the microfiber finger toothbrush on your finger and dip into the toothpaste and rub onto your pet’s teeth. Always make oral care a fun time for your pet and slowly work your way into a full cleaning. If you don’t’ get all the teeth cleaned in one session don’t worry. You can do a little each day so as not to overwhelm your pet.
Adding goats milk into your pet’s diet improves gut health. Depending on what you have an available in your area you can choose to supplement with fresh raw goats milk or the powdered kind. It’s easily digestible in 20 mins.

Organic Soap Nuts
Detergents contain all manner of chemicals none of which are good for you or your pets. The fragrance alone can cause skin issues so why wash your clothes, towels, bed sheets and dog beds in something that is unsafe. Making a switch from detergent to soap nuts is a safe and cost-saving replacement.
