Boulder City, NV is a mere ten-minute drive from our home in Las Vegas. The city built-in 1931 by the Bureau of Reclamation and Six Companies, Inc. housed the Hoover Dam workers. The dam project is one of the greatest engineering feats in the history of the United States. It is the most-visited dam in the world, with 7 million tourists a year.
At least twice a week, we take our dogs walking in Boulder City. We enjoy the quaintness and slower pace. We’ve walked there for at least fifteen years, and it’s without fail, we manage to find new areas to explore.
This past weekend we made a discovery, horse property! Can you imagine my excitement? It’s is quiet and serene area. There are riding schools and lots of animals. The resident kitty cats run and play while chickens and goats relax in the warm Autumn air. This rather large, friendly donkey had no problem posing for the camera.
It’s hard to imagine, that Las Vegas, the world’s gambling mecca, is just a stone’s throw away. Boulder City is a wonderful respite from the bright lights of the Las Vegas strip. You won’t find a single slot machine in the city, and unlike Las Vegas they keep normal business hours. It’s a wonderful place to visit when you need a break from life.
The stables are unique like this one, the tin bath planters give it a country feel. Boulder City allows me to appreciate its gorgeous landscapes, serenity, and rich history. Should you ever make your way through Boulder City, NV, make a little detour to the horse properties. You’ll love the taste of the simple life.
