October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a month dedicated to raising awareness and funds to find a cure for breast cancer. Events are happening in every city as we speak from bake sales to fun runs and walks.
I first volunteered to help with Breast Cancer Awareness month when I lived in Nashville. I met some amazing men and women who had suffered from breast cancer and I’m happy to say they beat it. I always enjoyed seeing participants awash in their creative pink costumes, many of them walking with their dogs. The events that I volunteered for were a positive experience. There were survivors of the disease to ones newly diagnosed, and they were their in solidarity. The level of support at breast cancer awareness events is simply astounding. Friendships are forged at these events with a common bond of finding a cure.
It’s not just the participants who dress up in their finest pink attire, so do their dogs. There are tutus, pink boas, and funniest of all, the pink balloon boobies hanging around their necks.
Anyone who has suffered any illness will tell you that their pets are a big comfort to them. They help them through the toughest of times, so there’s no wonder they bring them on the fundraising walks.
My fundraising efforts focus mainly on animals in need. However, in order for me to do my bit this year I’m donating 50% of the sales from any of our pink Bark ‘n’ Roll ties to the charity. This is a cute way to dress your dog for any of the BCAM events. You’ll find many pink ties on the site along with the breast cancer ribbon designs.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is also a time to impress upon everyone to take important steps in detecting the disease in its early stages. Progress is being made but there’s still a way to go in finding a cure. So, Self check, catch it early, and live a long healthy happy life.
