In Ancient Times Cats Were Worshiped As Gods; They Have Not Forgotten This
Isn’t that a funny quote? This book gave me a such a giggle. The quotes are hilarious and the images were a delight. Here’s some info on how this book came to life.
North Dakota photographer Nancy Hendrickson (1886-1982) had a passion for animals and was a talented seamstress. Throughout her life, she took thousands of photographs featuring her cats and other pets wearing handmade clothing and performing a spectrum of acts chronicling life on the farm in the 1920s and 1930s.
At the time, her photos won national prizes and were circulated in newspapers, magazines, and on postcards. These images have since taken residence in the archives of the North Dakota State Heritage Center and State Museum in Bismarck. Civilized Cats: An Album in Words and Pictures has given a selection of these lovingly produced and rarely seen photographs new life; interweaving them with clever narrative by some of the great thinkers, entertainers, and cat lovers of our time.
The result is a coffee table worthy collection of words and pictures that inspires great conversation and joy to all who flip through its pages.
Since it’s the gift giving season, you may want to give this book to the cat lover in your life. I’m sure they’ll love it.
